Marooning

Marooning is the act of leaving someone on a deserted island or coast, typically as a form of punishment. In maritime context, marooning was a common punishment for sailors who committed serious offenses such as mutiny, theft, or desertion. The offender would be left on a deserted island or coast with limited supplies and no means of escape. Marooning was a particularly cruel punishment as it often meant a slow and painful death from starvation, dehydration, or exposure to the elements. The practice of marooning was eventually abolished as it was deemed inhumane and replaced with other forms of punishment.
