Nantucket Sleigh Ride

Nantucket Sleigh Ride is a term used to describe the experience of a whaling boat being towed by a harpooned whale. After a whale was harpooned, it would often attempt to escape by diving deep into the ocean and swimming at high speeds. The whaling boat would be pulled along behind the whale, creating a thrilling and dangerous ride for the crew. The term originated in the 19th century during the height of the whaling industry, when Nantucket Island was a major center for whaling operations.
