NAVTEX Receiver
A NAVTEX Receiver is a device used in maritime communication to receive navigational and meteorological warnings and forecasts, as well as urgent maritime safety information. NAVTEX, an acronym for NAVigational TEleX, is an international automated service for radio broadcast delivery of navigational and meteorological warnings and forecasts, as well as urgent maritime safety information to ships. It forms a vital part of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). The NAVTEX Receiver decodes and stores navigational telex (NAVTEX) messages for later printing or display. It operates on a frequency of 518 kHz, and it is designed to be left on continuously, even when the ship's main radio installation is not attended. The receiver is equipped with an alarm to alert the ship's crew of incoming priority messages. These messages can be printed on a scrolling paper tape, or they can be displayed on a screen.
