Oceans are large bodies of saltwater that cover more than 70% of the Earth's surface. They are divided into five major oceans: the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern (Antarctic), and Arctic. Oceans play a crucial role in regulating the Earth's climate and weather patterns, as well as supporting a diverse range of marine life. They are also important for transportation, trade, and communication, with many of the world's major cities located on or near coastlines. The study of oceans, including their physical, chemical, and biological properties, is known as oceanography.
