Port State Control

Port State Control (PSC) is the inspection of foreign ships in national ports to verify that the condition of the ship and its equipment comply with the requirements of international regulations and that the ship is manned and operated in compliance with these rules. The main objective of PSC is to ensure that all ships comply with the minimum international safety, security, and environmental standards. PSC inspections are carried out by the port state authorities, which have the right to detain ships that do not comply with the regulations until the deficiencies are rectified. PSC is an important tool for ensuring maritime safety and preventing marine pollution.
