Privileged Vessel

A privileged vessel is a ship that enjoys certain rights and exemptions under international maritime law. These rights include immunity from seizure, arrest, or detention, and the ability to navigate freely without interference from other vessels or coastal states. Privileged vessels are typically those engaged in government service, such as naval vessels, coast guard ships, and research vessels. They may also include vessels engaged in humanitarian missions, such as hospital ships. However, these privileges are not absolute and can be waived in certain circumstances, such as when a privileged vessel engages in commercial activities or violates the laws of the coastal state. In such cases, the vessel may lose its privileged status and be subject to the same laws and regulations as any other vessel.
