Pump Rooms

In the maritime context, Pump Rooms refer to the designated areas within a ship, specifically in oil tankers, where the pumps and their associated piping systems are housed. These rooms are crucial for the operation of the ship as they facilitate the transfer of oil from the ship's cargo tanks to the shore facilities during offloading operations. The pump room is typically located at the bottom of the cargo tanks and is equipped with a variety of pumps, including main cargo pumps and stripping pumps. The main cargo pumps are used for the majority of the offloading operation, while the stripping pumps are used to remove the residual oil that the main pumps cannot reach. The pump room is also equipped with a ventilation system to remove any potentially explosive or harmful vapors. Safety measures are paramount in these areas due to the high risk of fire or explosion. Therefore, pump rooms are designed with strict safety regulations in mind, including the use of intrinsically safe electrical equipment and regular gas monitoring.
