Reeve

In maritime context, a reeve is a small, movable, and adjustable block that is used to change the direction of a rope or cable. It is commonly used to guide ropes through various angles and around corners on a ship. The reeve is typically made of wood or metal and has one or more sheaves, or grooved wheels, that the rope passes over. The block can be attached to a fixed point on the ship or hung from a rope or cable. The reeve is an essential tool for sailors and is used in a variety of tasks, including hoisting sails, lifting heavy objects, and securing cargo.
