Rolling

Rolling is the motion of a ship about its longitudinal axis, from side to side. It is caused by the action of waves on the hull and can be affected by the ship's design, loading, and speed. Rolling can be uncomfortable for passengers and crew, and in severe cases, can lead to cargo damage or even capsizing. The period of rolling, or the time it takes for the ship to complete one roll, is influenced by the ship's size and shape, as well as the wavelength and height of the waves. Ship stabilizers, such as fins or gyroscopes, can be used to reduce rolling and improve comfort and safety.
