Safety Of Life At Sea

Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) is an international maritime treaty that sets minimum safety standards for ships, including construction, equipment, and operation. The treaty also provides for the training and certification of seafarers, as well as the maintenance of safety communications and procedures. SOLAS aims to ensure that all ships engaged in international trade are seaworthy and that they can operate safely in all conditions. The treaty is enforced by flag states, port states, and coastal states, and non-compliance can result in detention or even the denial of entry to ports. SOLAS has been amended several times since its adoption in 1914, with the most recent amendments coming into force in 2020.
