Scupper

A scupper is a drainage hole or opening in the hull or deck of a ship, used to allow water to drain off the deck or out of the hull. Scuppers are typically located at the edges of the deck or in the bulwarks, and are designed to prevent water from accumulating on the deck and causing damage or instability to the ship. Scuppers can be either open or closed, and may be fitted with grates or screens to prevent debris from clogging the drainage system. Proper maintenance of scuppers is essential to ensure the safety and stability of the ship, particularly in heavy weather or rough seas.
