Shole
A shole is a dangerous area of shallow water in a body of water, such as a river, lake, or ocean. Shoals can be composed of sand, gravel, or rock, and can be found near shorelines, in the middle of bodies of water, or at the mouths of rivers. Shoals can be hazardous to ships, as they can cause damage to the hull or even cause a ship to run aground. Navigational charts and maps often indicate the location of shoals, and ships must take care to avoid them. In some cases, buoys or other markers may be placed near shoals to warn ships of their presence.
