Sinking

Sinking is the process of a vessel or a watercraft going below the surface of the water. This can happen due to various reasons such as collision, hull damage, flooding, or capsizing. Sinking can be a gradual process or can happen suddenly, depending on the cause. It is a serious maritime accident that can result in loss of life, environmental damage, and financial loss. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has established regulations and guidelines to prevent sinking and to ensure the safety of vessels and crew. These include requirements for watertight integrity, stability, and emergency preparedness.
