Standing Rigging

Standing rigging refers to the fixed lines and wires that support the mast(s) of a sailing vessel. It includes the forestay, backstay, shrouds, and any other wires or lines that provide support to the mast. The standing rigging is responsible for keeping the mast upright and in position, and is essential for maintaining the stability and safety of the vessel. The rigging is typically made of stainless steel wire or synthetic fibers, and is secured to the hull and deck of the vessel through a series of fittings and tensioning devices. Regular inspection and maintenance of the standing rigging is critical to ensure its strength and reliability.
