Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a medical emergency that occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating. In the maritime context, SCA can occur onboard ships and vessels, and can be caused by a variety of factors such as heart disease, electrocution, drowning, or trauma. SCA can lead to death within minutes if not treated immediately with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation. It is important for maritime workers to be trained in CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to increase the chances of survival in the event of SCA.
