Surfactants

Surfactants, also known as surface-active agents, are compounds that lower the surface tension between two liquids or between a liquid and a solid. In the maritime context, surfactants are commonly used in cleaning products for ships and offshore structures. They are effective in removing oil, grease, and other contaminants from surfaces, and are often used in conjunction with water to create a cleaning solution. Surfactants are also used in the production of marine coatings, as they can improve the wetting and adhesion properties of the coating. However, surfactants can have negative environmental impacts if they are not properly disposed of, as they can accumulate in waterways and harm aquatic life.
