TCPA

TCPA stands for Telephone Consumer Protection Act, a federal law in the United States that regulates telemarketing calls, auto-dialed calls, prerecorded calls, text messages, and unsolicited faxes. The law requires companies to obtain prior express written consent from consumers before making telemarketing calls or sending text messages to their mobile phones. TCPA also mandates that telemarketers must provide an opt-out mechanism during each call or message. Violations of TCPA can result in significant penalties, including fines of up to $1,500 per violation. In the maritime context, TCPA applies to companies that engage in telemarketing or send text messages to customers who have provided their mobile phone numbers.
