Tonnage Openings
Tonnage Openings refer to the apertures in the hull of a ship that are used for the measurement of its tonnage. These openings are located at the uppermost continuous deck and are used for the purpose of determining the internal volume of the ship. The tonnage of a ship is an important factor in determining its carrying capacity, registration fees, and other regulatory requirements. Tonnage Openings are typically closed by means of watertight covers, which can be removed for the purpose of inspection or measurement. The size and number of Tonnage Openings required for a particular ship are determined by international regulations and the classification society rules.
