Undermanned

Undermanned refers to a situation in which a ship or a vessel is being operated with a crew that is less than the minimum number required to safely and efficiently operate the vessel. The minimum number of crew members required for a vessel is determined by various factors such as the size and type of the vessel, the nature of the voyage, and the equipment and machinery on board. Operating a vessel with an undermanned crew can lead to fatigue, stress, and reduced situational awareness among the crew, which can increase the risk of accidents and incidents. It is the responsibility of the shipowner and the master of the vessel to ensure that the vessel is not undermanned and that the crew is adequately trained and qualified for their duties.
