UV Radiation

UV radiation refers to the electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength shorter than that of visible light, but longer than X-rays, in the range 10 nm to 400 nm. In the maritime context, UV radiation is a significant factor that affects the health and safety of seafarers. Prolonged exposure to UV radiation can cause skin damage, sunburn, skin cancer, and eye damage. Seafarers who work on deck for extended periods are at a higher risk of UV radiation exposure. Therefore, it is essential to take preventive measures such as wearing protective clothing, applying sunscreen, and using sunglasses to reduce the risk of UV radiation exposure.
