Waterline

Waterline is an imaginary line on a ship's hull that marks the level where the water meets the hull. It is also known as the Plimsoll line. The position of the waterline is determined by the weight of the ship, the amount of cargo it is carrying, and the density of the water in which it is sailing. The waterline is important because it affects the ship's stability and buoyancy. If the ship is loaded beyond its capacity, the waterline will be lower, and the ship will be less stable. On the other hand, if the ship is not loaded enough, the waterline will be higher, and the ship will be less buoyant.
