Afloat

Afloat refers to any object or vessel that is floating on the water surface without touching the bottom or any other underwater surface. In maritime context, a vessel is considered afloat when it is in the water and not aground or sunk. A vessel can be afloat while at anchor, moored to a pier, or underway. Afloat is an important concept in naval architecture and shipbuilding, as the buoyancy and stability of a vessel are critical factors in determining its seaworthiness and safety. Afloat can also refer to the status of a naval unit that is deployed and operating in a theater of operations, as opposed to being in port or dry dock for maintenance or repairs.
