Black Gang

Black Gang is a term used to refer to the group of engineers and mechanics responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of a ship's propulsion and auxiliary machinery. The Black Gang is responsible for ensuring that the ship's engines, boilers, generators, pumps, and other machinery are in good working order and that the ship is able to operate safely and efficiently. The term 'Black Gang' is derived from the fact that the engine room is typically a hot, dirty, and noisy environment, and the engineers and mechanics who work there often have to deal with soot and grease, which can leave them covered in black grime.
