Close-hauled Sailing

Close-hauled sailing is a sailing technique where a sailboat is steered as close to the wind direction as possible while still maintaining forward motion. This is achieved by trimming the sails so that they are at an angle to the wind, creating lift and propelling the boat forward. Close-hauled sailing is typically used when sailing upwind or close to the wind, and requires a skilled sailor to maintain the correct sail trim and steering angle. It is an important technique in racing and cruising, as it allows a sailboat to make progress towards its destination even when the wind is coming from an unfavorable direction.
