Access Control Measures

In the maritime context, Access Control Measures refer to the procedures and systems put in place to regulate and monitor the entry and exit of personnel, vehicles, and materials in and out of a ship or port facility. These measures are crucial in maintaining the security of the maritime environment, preventing unauthorized access, and ensuring the safety of the ship's crew, cargo, and the port facility. Access Control Measures can include physical barriers such as fences, gates, and locks, technological systems like surveillance cameras, biometric scanners, and electronic key cards, as well as procedural methods such as visitor logs, identification checks, and security patrols. These measures are often guided by international maritime security standards and regulations, such as the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. Effective Access Control Measures are essential in mitigating risks associated with piracy, smuggling, terrorism, and other maritime security threats.
