Coal

Coal is a combustible black or brownish-black sedimentary rock, formed as rock strata called coal seams. Coal is mostly carbon with variable amounts of other elements; chiefly hydrogen, sulfur, oxygen, and nitrogen. Coal is used as fuel for power generation, industrial processes, and heating. In maritime context, coal was historically used as fuel for steamships and played a significant role in the development of global trade and transportation. Coal was transported by sea from coal-producing regions to industrial centers and ports around the world. Today, coal is still used as fuel for some ships, particularly in developing countries where it is more affordable than other fuels.
