Desalination

Desalination is the process of removing salt and other minerals from seawater to make it suitable for human consumption and/or agricultural or industrial use. There are several methods of desalination, including reverse osmosis, distillation, and electrodialysis. Desalination is becoming an increasingly important source of fresh water in areas where traditional sources are scarce or contaminated. However, desalination is an energy-intensive process and can have negative environmental impacts, such as the discharge of brine and chemicals back into the ocean. Despite these challenges, desalination is expected to play a critical role in meeting the growing demand for fresh water in the coming years.
