Composites

Composites are materials made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties that, when combined, produce a material with characteristics different from the individual components. In the maritime context, composites are used extensively in boat and shipbuilding due to their high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and durability. Composites can be made from a variety of materials, including fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar, and epoxy resins. They are used in the construction of hulls, decks, masts, and other structural components, as well as in the production of marine equipment such as propellers and rudders.
