Drill Cuttings

Drill cuttings are the broken bits of rock and sediment that are produced by the drilling process. During drilling, the drill bit cuts through various layers of rock and sediment, and the cuttings are brought to the surface by the drilling mud. These cuttings are then separated from the mud and analyzed to determine the composition of the rock layers being drilled. In the maritime context, drill cuttings are of particular concern during offshore drilling operations, as they can contain harmful chemicals and heavy metals that can be released into the ocean. Proper handling and disposal of drill cuttings is essential to minimize the environmental impact of offshore drilling.
