Environmental Impact

Environmental Impact refers to the effect of human activities on the natural environment. In the maritime context, it includes the impact of shipping activities on the marine environment, such as pollution from oil spills, ballast water discharge, and air emissions. The environmental impact of shipping can also include noise pollution, disturbance of marine life, and habitat destruction. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has established regulations and guidelines to minimize the environmental impact of shipping, including the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) and the Ballast Water Management Convention. The goal is to ensure that shipping activities are conducted in a sustainable manner that minimizes harm to the environment.
