Electronic Warfare
Electronic Warfare (EW) is the use of electromagnetic spectrum to sense, protect, and communicate. In the maritime context, EW is used to deny or disrupt an adversary's use of the electromagnetic spectrum, including radar, communication, and navigation systems. EW includes electronic support measures (ESM), electronic attack (EA), and electronic protection (EP). ESM is the use of electromagnetic energy to detect, locate, and identify sources of radiated electromagnetic energy. EA is the use of electromagnetic energy to attack personnel, facilities, or equipment with the intent of degrading, neutralizing, or destroying them. EP is the use of electromagnetic energy to protect personnel, facilities, or equipment from any effects of friendly or enemy use of the electromagnetic spectrum.
