Expansion Joint
An expansion joint is a structural gap between two parts of a ship that allows for movement caused by thermal expansion, vibration, or other dynamic forces. It is designed to absorb the movement and prevent damage to the ship's structure. Expansion joints are commonly found in areas where there are changes in temperature, such as the engine room, and in areas where there is a lot of vibration, such as the propeller shaft. They are typically made of materials that can withstand the harsh marine environment, such as rubber, neoprene, or stainless steel.
