Impact Resistance

Impact resistance is the ability of a material or structure to withstand sudden shock or collision without breaking or cracking. In the maritime context, impact resistance is a crucial factor in the design and construction of ships, offshore structures, and marine equipment. The hull of a ship, for example, must be able to withstand collisions with floating objects, such as icebergs or other vessels, without sustaining significant damage. Similarly, offshore platforms and drilling rigs must be designed to withstand the impact of waves, currents, and extreme weather conditions. Impact resistance is often achieved through the use of specialized materials, such as high-strength steel, composite materials, or rubber coatings.
