Fend Off

Fend off is a maneuver used by boats to prevent them from colliding with another vessel or object. It involves using the boat's fenders, which are cushions placed between the boat and the dock or other boats, to push away from the object. Fending off is typically done when a boat is approaching a dock or another boat and needs to slow down or stop. The fenders are placed on the side of the boat that is closest to the object, and the boat is pushed away using the fenders until it is at a safe distance. This maneuver requires skill and coordination from the boat's crew to avoid damage to the boat or other objects.
