Gantline

A gantline is a single rope or wire used to hoist a load. It is usually attached to a yardarm or mast and used to raise or lower heavy objects such as sails, spars, or equipment. The gantline is typically operated by a team of sailors who use a capstan or winch to control the movement of the load. In some cases, the gantline may be used to support a person who is working aloft. The term gantline is derived from the French word 'gant', meaning glove, which refers to the protective gloves worn by sailors when handling the rope.
