Geographic Coordinate System

Geographic Coordinate System (GCS) is a reference system that uses latitude and longitude to define the location of a point on the earth's surface. It is a global system that enables the precise location of any point on the earth's surface to be determined. The GCS is based on a three-dimensional model of the earth, with the equator as the reference plane and the prime meridian as the reference line. The latitude and longitude of a point are measured in degrees, minutes, and seconds, with the equator as the zero point for latitude and the prime meridian as the zero point for longitude. The GCS is used in navigation, surveying, and mapping, and is essential for the safe and efficient operation of ships at sea.
