Global Navigation Satellite Systems

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are a constellation of satellites that provide positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services to users worldwide. These systems use a network of satellites in orbit around the Earth to transmit signals to GNSS receivers on the ground, which use the signals to determine their precise location and time. The most well-known GNSS is the Global Positioning System (GPS), operated by the United States government. Other GNSS systems include Russia's GLONASS, China's BeiDou, and the European Union's Galileo. GNSS technology is used in a wide range of maritime applications, including navigation, search and rescue, and vessel traffic management.
