Half Model
A half model is a three-dimensional, scale model of the port side of a ship or boat, from bow to stern. It is typically carved from wood and used by shipbuilders to design and build the actual vessel. The half model allows the builder to visualize the shape of the hull and make adjustments before construction begins. It is also used by naval architects to study the hydrodynamics of the vessel, including its stability and resistance to motion through the water. Half models can range in size from a few inches to several feet in length, depending on the size of the ship being modeled.
