Lubber Line
In maritime context, the lubber line is a reference line marked on the compass bowl or housing to indicate the direction of the vessel's fore and aft line. It is used to take bearings and determine the vessel's heading. The lubber line is aligned with the vessel's centerline and remains fixed while the compass card rotates. This allows the helmsman to easily read the vessel's heading without having to constantly adjust for the movement of the compass card. The lubber line is an essential tool for navigation and steering a vessel.
