Hazards

Hazards refer to any potential danger or risk that may cause harm or damage to ships, crew, cargo, or the environment. Hazards in the maritime context can be natural or man-made, and can include but are not limited to: storms, heavy seas, icebergs, rocks, shoals, sandbars, piracy, terrorism, collisions, fires, explosions, and pollution. Hazards can be mitigated through proper planning, training, equipment, and procedures, as well as through the use of navigational aids and communication systems. However, hazards can never be completely eliminated, and it is the responsibility of all maritime stakeholders to identify, assess, and manage hazards to ensure safe and sustainable operations.
