Heat Stress

Heat stress is a condition that occurs when the body is unable to regulate its internal temperature in response to external heat. This can happen when a person is exposed to high temperatures and humidity for an extended period of time, causing the body to lose its ability to cool down through sweating. Heat stress can lead to a range of symptoms, including dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, which can be life-threatening. In the maritime context, heat stress is a common concern for workers on ships and offshore platforms, particularly in hot and humid climates. Employers are responsible for implementing measures to prevent heat stress, such as providing adequate ventilation, hydration, and rest breaks.
