Heavy Fuel Oil

Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) is a residual fuel derived from crude oil refining. It is a viscous, tar-like substance that is commonly used as fuel in marine vessels due to its high energy content and low cost. HFO is typically stored in large tanks on board ships and is heated to reduce its viscosity before being pumped to the engines. However, HFO combustion releases high levels of pollutants, including sulfur oxides and particulate matter, which contribute to air pollution and have negative impacts on human health and the environment. As a result, there are increasing regulations and efforts to reduce the use of HFO in the maritime industry.
