Fuel Oil

Fuel oil is a fraction obtained from petroleum distillation, either as a distillate or a residue. It is commonly used as a fuel in marine vessels, power plants, and industrial boilers. Fuel oil is classified into different grades based on its viscosity and sulfur content. The higher the viscosity, the more difficult it is to pump and burn. The higher the sulfur content, the more harmful it is to the environment. The most commonly used grades of fuel oil in the maritime industry are intermediate fuel oil (IFO) and marine gas oil (MGO). IFO is a blend of residual and distillate fuel oils, while MGO is a distillate fuel oil with a lower sulfur content.
