Life-line
A life-line is a rope or cable that is stretched along the deck of a ship, or around the perimeter of a deck, to provide a secure handhold for crew members in rough seas or other hazardous conditions. The life-line is typically made of strong, durable material, such as steel wire or synthetic fiber, and is secured to the ship's structure at regular intervals. In addition to providing a handhold, the life-line can also be used to secure crew members to the ship in the event of an emergency, such as a man overboard situation. The use of life-lines is an important safety measure on all types of ships, from small pleasure craft to large commercial vessels.
