Lightning

Lightning is a natural electrical discharge of very short duration and high voltage that occurs within a thundercloud, between clouds, or between the cloud and the sea. Lightning can cause damage to ships and boats, especially if they are made of metal. When lightning strikes a vessel, it can cause fire, explosion, or structural damage. To prevent damage, ships and boats are equipped with lightning protection systems, which are designed to conduct the electrical charge safely to the water. These systems consist of a network of conductors, grounding plates, and lightning rods that are strategically placed on the vessel. Lightning is a serious threat to maritime safety and requires careful attention and preparation.
