Longitudinal Centre Of Buoyancy (LCB)

The Longitudinal Centre of Buoyancy (LCB) is the longitudinal location of the centre of buoyancy of a floating body. It is the point along the length of the ship where the upward force of buoyancy acts. The LCB is an important parameter in ship design as it affects the ship's stability and trim. A ship with a forward LCB will have a tendency to trim down by the head, while a ship with an aft LCB will have a tendency to trim up by the head. The LCB is calculated by dividing the moment of buoyancy about the ship's centreline by the total buoyancy force. This calculation is typically performed during the design phase of a ship.
