Medical Practitioner

A medical practitioner is a licensed healthcare professional who practices medicine to diagnose, treat, and prevent illnesses, injuries, and diseases. In the maritime context, medical practitioners are responsible for providing medical care to crew members and passengers on board ships. They must be knowledgeable about the unique health risks associated with maritime travel, such as motion sickness, dehydration, and exposure to extreme weather conditions. Medical practitioners on ships must also be prepared to handle medical emergencies, such as injuries from accidents or illnesses that require immediate attention. They may work in a ship's infirmary or be called upon to provide medical care in other areas of the ship as needed.
