Metacentre
Metacentre is the point at which a vertical line through the centre of buoyancy of a floating object intersects with the line through the centre of gravity of the object. In other words, it is the point of intersection of the vertical line passing through the centre of buoyancy and the centre of gravity of a floating body. The metacentre is an important concept in naval architecture as it determines the stability of a ship. A higher metacentric height (distance between the metacentre and the centre of gravity) indicates greater stability, while a lower metacentric height indicates lower stability. The metacentre is also used to calculate the rolling period of a ship.
