Personal Locator Beacons

Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) are small, portable devices that transmit a distress signal to search and rescue authorities via satellite. They are designed to be carried by individuals, such as hikers, sailors, and pilots, who may find themselves in emergency situations in remote locations where traditional communication methods are not available. PLBs use the international Cospas-Sarsat satellite system to transmit a distress signal, which is then relayed to a ground station and ultimately to a rescue coordination center. Once the signal is received, search and rescue teams can quickly locate the individual in distress and provide assistance. PLBs are an essential safety device for anyone who spends time in remote or hazardous environments.
