Phocidae
Phocidae is a family of marine mammals commonly known as true seals or earless seals. They are found in the Arctic, Antarctic, and temperate and tropical waters. True seals are characterized by their lack of external ear flaps, short and wide front flippers, and the ability to move on land by flopping along on their bellies. They are carnivorous and feed on a variety of fish and invertebrates. True seals are important to the maritime ecosystem as they are both predator and prey, and their presence or absence can have a significant impact on the food chain.
